The Slug

I was looking at getting a NAS unit for home but the price tags were quite off putting.
So, I had a look around the 'net and discovered that the very inexpensive Linksys NSLU2 unit (nicknamed the Slug) can be hacked with 3rd party firmware. Got one and had a play around with it and it's quite cool. I've installed an iTunes server on the Slug and it works really well. OK, it doesn't have RAID 5 and hot swap disks etc but for the price it's pretty neat. I've been using it to stream the kids movies through XBMC which is great as it means the DVDs can be stored safely away from sticky hands!

World of Tweets

I've recently started playing with Twitter and after an initial feeling of "What on earth would I ever use this for?" it's actually ended up being a lot of fun. Who knew Brent Spiner was so funny? It's a great way of getting an understanding of people that you will never ever meet. Faces that I've seen only on television or a movie screen suddenly become a bit more personal.

Almost a year...

Can't believe it's been almost a year since I've done anything here. Time to rectify that. There. Done.
